- Our first night in town, we had no idea where to go and eat. So we headed out from Oakshade, turned down Dewey St. and ended up on Porter Ave. at a really nice place. Phoenicia Gourmet was a delight. Everyone was nice, the music wasn't too loud, the atmosphere was classy, yet friendly. Since it was my birthday weekend, I was totally surprised with a small birthday cake after a delicious meal. (The salad dressing is awesome, too!)
Phoenicia Gourmet nothing else to say it rules!
We ran into a friendly feline on one of our walk-arounds during the festival. He reminded us of our cat, Cosmo, so of course we had to stop and play with him a bit. There were some young people up on a balcony of a house watching us and they struck up a conversation they asked us where we were from and when we said Oxford, it turned out one of them had been there, so we chatted awhile about "the little easy," as it's known.
On an evening drive, we came upon this little harbor on our way to find Shearwater Pottery. Those birds were so cool perching in the trees for the evening. Not being a coastal native, but being from the hill country of N. MS, I am assuming these birds are white cranes. Someone out there help me out if they know of this area and the birds' habits. Someone did help me out. Thanks to a new found friend in O.S., I learned these are Great Egrets, and they like to roost there in the evenings during Autumn. They like freshwater and salt marshes, marshy ponds and tidal flats. They have survived and multiplied after being hunted for their beautiful long plumes.
Discovered this wonderful hanging bottletree. Wish I had taken note of the street. It was so cool with the sun shining through the glass especially the cobalt blue my favorite! I want a tree like that.
This community evidently has people who are not afraid of color! Artistic people. People who love art. This purple house was a sight to behold on our Sunday morning drive. I loved it! Another reason we want to live here. We can paint our house any color we like. My only regret -- I did not take enough pictures overall.
